Recital Video

Never posted a video of my recital from last November. I take classes from Homespun Hoops here in Charleston, SC (www.homespunhoops.com). So, here it is:

Spirit Dance-Hoopcamp Contest Entry

This video was already in the works before the contest, so I decided to submit it.

A great idea

I’m going to make a hoop for this project. Anyone else in?

Another Crazy Hoop Idea!

Hooping.org’s 30/30 Challenge

So, I was feeling a little lost as for what to do yesterday for 30 minutes. Kinda just kept doing the same things over and over. Decided to shake it up today and practice with minis seriously for the first time. I feel like I made some good progress. After 30 minutes of working my arms, though, I’m afraid I won’t be able to lift them tomorrow. Guess I’ll have to concentrate on the core. I actually video’d yesterday’s practice and watched it today. If found that my moves look a lot more graceful than they feel. Even jumps I thought I had totally messed up looked pretty good on film. I’m going to go give my hoop a kiss for making me look so good. I still think the benefits of video, even if it makes you nervous, outweigh the bad. I was able to self-diagnose my problems with angled hooping.

Another favorite hooping video

I love how Anah really dances with the hoop.

Hooping At Charleston Dragonboat Festival

Hooping at Marion Square Today

From Homespun Hoops:

Wanted to send out an email to let y’all know a couple of things…
First~ We are being featured on News 2 this Wednesday at the 11am and 5pm newscast! Check it out!

Second~ We are planning a hoop evening at Marion Square on Thursday to follow the interview. we would love to see you all and anyone else that can come! We are hoping to bring people out after the newscast! We will be meeting from 6-8, but someone will be at Spirit Moves to get the doors open for class…although it would be good if it could start at 8, if that is ok with everyone…

And last~ I wanted to let those of you who haven’t been by Thursday’s class in a while, that we are planning a summer show…date TBA, but we are working on Music and the overall concept at the moment. Would love to see more of you there! We are going to rock!

I would love hear any ideas and feedback that you all may have! I think we can make Charleston an excellent hoop town if we all hoop together!
If you all have any suggestions for location and days for a monthly or weekly hoop jam for summertime let’s hear it!

Yeah hooping!!!
Y’all are awesome and thanks for everything!

How all this craziness got started

Hoop Stars: A new look at the hoop dancing community from Morbid Smile Arts on Vimeo.

You know you are a hooper when:

Hey, all. A few of us beginners were saying how we didn’t really feel like like hoopers yet. I started being aware of how into it I really was and decided to write a Signs That You Are a Hooper list for beginners to help us see that we are hoopers and also because I think the list could be hilarious. I want to open it up to suggestions from the community to see what kind of list we can come up with.

So far I have:

You know you are a hooper when:
1. You spend five minutes packing clothes and personal items for a weekend trip and 45 minutes deciding which hoops and hoop-making supplies to take.
2. You own more than five hoops.
3. You have so much hoop tape that your room looks like a rainbow threw up in it.
4. Your spinning class has nothing to do with bikes.
5. You choose your new car based on whether your hoops will fit or not.
6. Your family and friends start singing songs to you with words changed to hoop or hooping. My brother’s entire family sang, “I like to hoop it, hoop it,” during our vacation a couple of weeks ago.

You know you are a hooper when you walk into a public place in your town and 5 strangers ask you if you are the “hula hoop girl” I saw, here, there, everywhere around town =) I smile and ask if they would like to try either the one in my hand or one of the many in my mini van I just purchased….because it fit the most hoops!!!

when you anything or everything round you think its a hoop and have to double take
example: I always double take on hoses on the ground thinking its tubing lol

You know you are a hooper when:
Your den furniture has been re-arranged to accomodate hooping but would make HGtv think “you need a room makeover”

You know you are a hooper when your walls and ceiling are embelished with colorful stripes

I’ve experienced many of the signs, but also :
When you receive holiday cards wishing you ” HOOPY HOLIDAYS !”
When you go to bed at night and your thoughts are spinning around your head as if you’re hooping!

~ the manager of the hardware store asks you if you own an irrigation installation company and you have to explain what you are doing with all the tubing you purchase.

“- Whenever you see a large open area you think “wow, great hooping space”

You have a hooping bookmark folder on your computer.
You get the urge to try a new trick at midnight and you are outside in your pajamas in two seconds.
Your 11 month old son sees a hoop and puts it over his head and shakes.
You have the perfect spot for your collapsable on the floor of your car right under the babies car seat.

-you have a bumper sticker that says “What Would Buddha Do?” with the word HOOP written over it in the dust that settled on the sticker(from backroads of course)
-when all u do is constantly think of places that would be great for hooping(ie. mountains, cliffs, meadows, etc.)
-when you spend more time on hoopcity than myspace, facebook, and twitter combined
-when random hooping in front of random people does not bother you anymore— may or may not be a good one. not all hoopers like to perform.
